More Complications in Yazmin Bautista's Child Custody Case

Many Arizonians are familiar with the Yazmin Maribel Bautista case. As we reported in an earlier blog post, the Phoenix woman is going through a tough child custody battle with her ex-husband Sadiq Jaffar Al-Saffar, who now resides in the country of Bahrain. She was granted sole custody of her daughter through the Arizona family courts, but after Yazmin traveled to Bahrain so that her 5-year-old daughter could visit her father, the small Middle Eastern country ruled that the child must stay with her father and that she cannot go back to the United States with her mother. The mother and daughter have been waiting in Bahrain for the dispute to be resolved for about a year.

Fox News reports that Yazmin Bautista had recently been hiding with her daughter to keep the child from being handed over to her Bahraini father for weekend visitation as ordered by a Bahrain court. Yazmin Bautista was arrested for violating the order, where it's now questionable if the woman's daughter will ever be returned to her. The mother's family lawyer was also arrested in Bahrain for trying to report the police and keep them from taking the child away.

Things certainly aren't looking good for Yazmin Bautista in her child custody case. Even many Phoenix family lawyers are confused by the foreign child custody dispute and are saying that the Arizona mother's situation might be hopeless.

The mother told FOX News, "We've been here over a year and I've gone to court hearing after court hearing, and it's not going anywhere...sure the embassy has done everything it can, but at the end of the day we're still stuck in Bahrain."
