Authorities have revealed that skeletal remains found in a gully in northern Arizona may be the remains of missing two year old Sylar Newton. ABC News reports that Yavapai County Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn told news outlets that the remains were found less than two miles from the campsite by a relative of Sylar Newton. The toddler was last seen on July 25.

A press release by the Yavapai County Sheriff read: "The remains were located at the bottom of a wash and likely came to rest in this area due to recent flash flooding. At this time, the remains are believed to be that of Sylar Newton, but final confirmation is still pending." The family member had been searching the area since the toddler vanished. While he is not considered a suspect, police still questioned him.

It seems like the remains were hidden for some time, but that a flash flood revealed it. Yavapai County Sheriff's Capt. David Rhodes told news reporters: "Somebody didn't want us to find him." The baby was last seen with his custodial mother Christina Priem, her children, and Priem's mother when they went camping. Police shortly announced that the disappearance could possibly be a kidnapping and called for a criminal investigation. However, Newton's biological mother, Charity Newton has been cooperative with the investigation.

A Phoenix family attorney knows that sometimes kidnappings can be over a child custody battle. It is important for individuals to be aware that kidnapping a child is against the law and that there are other ways to regain child custody. If you are interested in gaining child custody, make sure to meet with a Phoenix family lawyer to discuss your options.
