A three year old boy was found wandering the street with no shoes on in Prescott Valley. AZ Family reports that at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Thursday of last week, a storeowner saw a little boy walking the street alone across from her business. She took the boy in and called police. Prescott Valley police were finally able to locate the boy's home.

When they arrived at the apartment, they allegedly smelled burning marijuana and found drug paraphernalia. The boy's mother, Ashley Kelley told police that she was smoking marijuana with a friend inside the apartment. She said she was not aware that her son was missing and may have left the apartment through the back door. Police claim that there is no evidence to back this assertion.

Ashley Kelley's husband, Chris Mcleod was contacted by police and when he came home, he admitted to possessing the marijuana.

As a result, Child Protective Services took custody of the boy. It was later found that Ashley Kelley had a warrant out for her arrest. She was arrested and taken to Yavapai County Jail for the warrant and additional charges of child neglect, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Child neglect is a serious allegation that can end with losing custody of your children. Child neglect occurs when a parent fails to meet a child's basic needs such as food, shelter, clothes, medical treatment and supervision. If you have questions about child neglect and child custody, it may be useful to speak with a Phoenix family attorney.
